Our Roots

Yoga teaches us that without community we don't go far. We're in this together!

Since our humble beginnings (a single studio room on the 3rd floor of our P Street locale), our dream for Flow has always been two-fold... one, to create a warm, welcoming space for DC's movers, shakers and changemakers filled with spirit and possibility to gather in community & experience the depths of of a modern day yoga practice, and two, to create an authentic home for the areas most beloved and experienced teachers.

In this way we can serve world-class yoga with a rich schedule that ranges from more soulful & nourishing classes to powerful strength & sweat based offerings, mindful lifestyle workshops & transformative social justice programming to bring out the best in each of us.

Today, Flow is a DC treasure and thousands (local & out of town guests) join us each week for our class experiences. Our offerings continue to deepen as a vibrant reflection of the growth and interests of our collective.

Ian Mishalove

Ian’s professional life is focused on inspiring people to nurture life on earth – starting especially with their own wellbeing. He currently serves as the Director of “Flow” for Flow Yoga Center, which he co-owns with his wife Debra. There, he ensures operations run smoothly for the bustling Flow community, which currently numbers over 2,000 visitors per week. Prior to that, Ian worked for 12 years directing online communications departments and organizing activist supporters for the Campaign for America’s Future and the National Wildlife Federation. Ian received an MES from Yale’s School of Environment and a BA from Princeton University, and in both places focused on how to empower progressive social‑movement networks – esp. through online technology. Outside of yoga and activism, Ian spends as much time as possibly playing (mostly in the great outdoors) with friends and family.
